Chapter 5
Once they were home and inside, Elias cut Seth off mid-sentence to shove him against the wall and kiss him as though he needed it to live. He felt like he did. He was desperate for the reassuring contact and the contentment it brought him.
âI thought you were mad at me,â Seth said between pants for breath when Elias let him go.
âI was, and then I was scared, and you make me feel better.â Perhaps it was overly honest, but Elias felt it needed to be said. He was upset, but that wasnât the most important thing and it wasnât as though Seth didnât apologize. Maybe he shouldnât forgive so easily, but he suspected Seth had that problem as well.
âIâm sorry you were scared.â Seth wrapped his arms around him. Theyâd never really hugged like this before. Like everything in their relationship, it was weird and backward, but it still didnât feel like it mattered that it was. Elias melted into him and buried his face against Sethâs shoulder, closing his eyes to listen to his heartbeat.
They stood there for a handful of minutes, silent and basking in physical contact. âIâm so tired of being told Iâm not allowed to be who I am.â
Seth chuckled darkly. âTry being bi. But I get you.â
âI was so sure that when I told John how I felt that heâd agree that weâd be best off leaving, together. I know he felt the same way about me, I know. I could tell. But then he turned around and told me that wasnât right, and Iâve honestly never been so afraid, because if the one person I thought I could trust would turn on me, where could I go? And then I ended up here.â Elias took a deep breath and pressed closer to Seth.
âDonât worry about one asshole. Seriously. If he showed his face in here he probably wouldnât leave alive. People here love you so much.â
âI havenât been here very long.â Elias laughed. He felt as though he fit in, regardless.
âBut youâre charming. I mean, youâre adorable, and people react to that. Itâs like having a puppy in the bar.â
âI will take that as a compliment.â
âYou should, I love dogs.â Seth kissed the top of his head.
âWe should get one, then.â Elias looked up at him. âIâve never had a dog.â
âYouâre not allergic or anything, are you? Because I had two partners in a row who were.â
âNot that Iâm aware of. Iâve never reacted to one. And if I am, there are medications for that.â
Seth looked so thrilled that Elias was sure heâd said exactly the right thing for once in his life. They absolutely should get a dog if the idea made Seth that happy.
As if to confirm Eliasâ thoughts, Seth leaned down and kissed him. It was so soft and gentle that it made Eliasâ chest hurt. Heâd have to learn how to do this, instead of just attacking Sethâs mouth with his own, but for now Seth seemed to be okay with doing most of the work.
